kernel upgrade in sap on windows steps


KERNAL UPGARADE
è It is the process of replacing the existing executables with a new set of executables due to following reasons.
                                I.            While deploying support packages a pre-requisite is kernel needs to be upgraded.
                              II.            During an OS/DB/SAP upgrade.
                            III.            SAP recommends to secure/protect the system.
è It consists of three types os executables.
                                I.            SAP EXE
                              II.            SAPEXE_DB
                            III.            Third party executables
è Kernel is only the component that is dependent on OS,DB, netweaver versions, 32/64, Unicode/non-unicode.
PROCESS OF UPGRADING KERNEL:
1)      Stop SAP system , stop services (SAPOSCOL, SAPSID_00, SQLSERVEER)
 MSSQL AGENT for sql server
ORACLESERVICESID,LISTENER(oracleTNS listener) for oracle server
2)      Backup the kernel directory to oldkernel(timestamp).
3)      Download the latest kernel from market oracle .
www.sevice.sap.com/swd  and download the database dependent and database independent files.
4)      Uncar the executables into kernel directory.
5)      Restart the services and sap system.
6)      On unix environment run a script (rootpre.sh) it will set the permissions for the kernel files (DB dependent and db independent).
7)      Check the version using disk+work.exe command. (sapcar –xvf SAPEXE.sar).
